You're probably questioning my counting skills...yes I am aware Day 2 is missing...and yes I am perfectly capable of counting in chronological order, I swear.
In other news, there is no news (at least for Townsville).
They're saying Debbie is the worst storm to hit in 6 years, but so far the most Townsville has seen has been a gust of wind that blew the gate open and my hair in my face...hopefully we get a little rain out of her because right now it looks like our dam level will be sitting at 16% for a while.
To be fair, it's still early to say anything since she just hit land a couple hours ago down by Airlie Beach.
Otherwise, we have all been hanging tight in our houses with blankets, junk food and lots of movies. Probably should start catching up in my subjects since I don't think even a cyclone is a good excuse for cancelling a midterm.
So for a recap of Day 2: pretty much was just a day of preparation for everybody in town by tying down loose objects or stocking up on milk and bread. I mostly tied down things outside like our propane tanks for our stove as well as making sure nothing in our yard would blow into our glass doors and windows. It was a pretty easy day of watching movies and studying. I think the most excitement we had was when my housemates and I chased down an ice cream truck for its goodies, I mean who doesn't want frozen goodness during a cyclone?
Around 8:30 pm, my friend and I picked up my other housemate from work (literally the one and only restaurant open in town). Before we picked her up, we took a quick drive up to the top of castlehill just to scope out the conditions out by Magnetic Island. I don't think I've ever been here when it was so chilly, it almost felt like time was on pause for a little bit. Everything was at a dead standstill, nobody was out on the roads or really outside.
When we got back, I made a new friend with the local fruit bat hanging out in our gum tree in the yard. Maybe next time I'll get a better picture, but at least I got another sunset picture before I left for the inner city.
It was pretty eerie, not going to lie. My housemates and I were standing on our balcony looking out at the weird hazy yellow sunset. It had a weird smell to it too, it almost smelled like ozone of all things. As soon as the sun set, it left this dark blood red color in its absence. You can't really see it in the picture, but it was pretty creepy and pretty at the same time.
